El presidente de la Confederacin Brasileira de Fútbol (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, le comunic el viernes al titular de la Federacin Internacional de Fútbol Asociacin (FIFA) Gianni Infantino que desea presentar la candidatura de su país para organizar la Copa Mundial de Fútbol de 2030.
Segn noticias del medio brasileo ESPN, Rodrigues hablo con Infantino sobre el asunto en un encuentro privado que tuvo lugar en Zurique, Suiza, y aseguró que su intencin es presentar la candidatura de Brasil junto a Argentina o Uruguay. Tambin se dijo que una delegacin europea expreso su inters para organizar el evento. Sin embargo, no se conoce la identidad del país en cuestión. Por otro lado, Estados Unidos tambin ha sido uno de los países que han mostrado inters en albergar la Copa Mundial de Fútbol en 2030. La FIFA aun no ha decidido quién ser el anfitrión del torneo, aunque se espera que sea elegido entre Brasil, Argentina y Uruguay o Estados Unidos. En 2018, la FIFA decidió que los anfitriones de las ediciones 2026, 2030 y 2034 sean designados simultneamente, para evitar conflictos entre candidaturas en el futuro. Sin embargo, la organizacin no hizo ninguna declaracin sobre el asunto desde entonces. En caso de ser elegido como anfitrión, Brasil ya organizo en 2014 la Copa Mundial de Fútbol, donde se coronaron campeones a Alemania, y antes de eso en 2013 la Copa Confederaciones, donde Brasil ganó el torneo.
